The results are in from the inaugural LyndalCairns.com user engagement survey - and I have to say, I'm surprised.

Who visits LyndalCairns.com?

I went into the process of surveying y'all with a few preconceptions. My web traffic - or analytics - had shown me what I thought were patterns of behavior that related to two distinct groups of people:

  1. Those from the nonprofit industries looking for tips and tools in social media, and
  2. Those interested in my writing because they knew me.

(These were the first two visitor personas I developed for my site, to guide me when developing content. I covered writing for web personas in depth in an earlier piece.)
I had hoped visitors would fall into
two interest categories but
of course, it wasn't that simple.
In fact, there was no distinction between those coming for nonprofit content and those coming because they liked my writing.

More than 90 per cent of those who answered the survey reported being my friend, colleague or contact. Yet 36 per cent said they also liked the writing, 27 per cent said they were interested in social media and 18 per cent in digital journalism.

What are you looking for?

The majority of you found LyndalCairns.com through a social media post - probably one of mine. A third of you just read the blog you came for but encouragingly, 40 per cent reported reading more on the Trampoline blog and another third reported reading the "about me" page.

More than half of you were interested in blogs about language or culture, a third wanted social media information and a fifth wanted digital journalism help.

One of the most surprising results was that every respondent wanted to read more blogs about my life. Be careful what you wish for...

I'd still love to know what you think. If you haven't already, please answer the quick LyndalCairns.com engagement survey.
